Diet & Supplements: 2012
My diet changes from day to day, so really the best way to see what I am eating is to check out my DAILYBURN log.
I do my best to eat clean and healthy - whole grains, lean proteins, lots of fruits and veggies. Drink lots of water ... all of the stuff that we all know that we are supposed to do. I try not to overcomplicate things. I'm busy enough with work and training that I can't really be bothered with the exact nitrogen retention rate of a specific kind of protein, etc.
I try to eat around 2700 - 3000 cals per day, but again, that changes based on what I am doing each day. Or how I feel, etc. If I ate 3000 calories, and I'm still hungry ... guess what? I'm the guy you'll find in the kitchen eating a PB&J with a glass of milk ... or grilling up some chicken breasts to go with a baked sweet potato and a pile of veggies.
For supplements, I have really stripped things down. Back to basics, and these are what I usually take:
- Whey protein - first thing in the AM, and also after heavy or long workouts.
- Green tea - Actually, THIS is what I take first thing in the AM on an empty stomach. 2 caps of green tea extract, usually in the middle of the night when I let the dogs out to do their business. Don't ask me why, but they like to wake me up at 4 am every day for this. It's an alarm clock that I can't ignore.
- Fish oil - 4 caps per day, 2 with breakfast and 2 with dinner.
- Multi-vitamin - I cycle between Anavite and Armor-V. 3 caps with breakfast, 3 caps with dinner.
- Vitamin D3 - 5000 iu daily, with lunch
- Assault - my favorite pre-workout. I take this before heavy workouts, or if I am dragging before any workout.
- BCAAs - I mix these in with my 50/50 water/Gatorade mix and sip it during long runs. Also sip on this during weight training workouts.
- ZMA Max - 2 caps, every night before bed on an empty stomach.
